take a trip with vacationer

April 24, 2012
By

I love little tunes that take you to a pretty place & this is one of them.

Their facebook biography reads, ” Most people do not take vacations often enough, some not at all. Quality vacations let us recapture that feeling of childlike exploratory freedom, which we seem to experience less and less frequently as we age. We can have fun without worrying about the familiar consequences presented to us regularly in life. Taking a good amount of time away from our daily stresses allows us to return to our lives refreshed and better equipped to handle whatever comes next.

The eastern seaboard’s foremost relaxation specialists have teamed up to compile this unique collection of serenity-inducing sonic arrangements. The audio program you are about to experience was designed with the sole purpose of relaxing the listener and sending their mind on a well-deserved trip. No airfare needed, no reservations. Simply settle in, relax and enjoy; Vacation from anywhere at anytime.”

Just press play to escape for a few minutes.

I’m going with cut copy

March 27, 2012

Looking for a fun spring anthem?  I believe I’ve found mine thanks to these hipster Aussie boys.

A review reads, “Cut Copy have never been able to figure out whether they’re indie rock experimentalists or ‘80s dance purists. So they’ve become both.  With Cut Copy, you never know for sure what’s going to happen, but you do know with a fair degree of certainty that it’ll be beautiful.” -Ryan Reed

Before you hit play, I must warn you this tune does make you want to sing out loud with much enthusiasm… and it will replay in your head all day long ;-)

walking on a dream

I can’t remember where I first heard this song by this eclectic duo, but I found myself humming the chorus all afternoon long.

A review reads, “This is the sound of the Noughties – electro enough without being harsh, interesting without being over-cool, quirky without being weird. Empire Of The Sun have cracked the perfect blend of fond reflection and sexy new frontier frisson. If this is what the future sounds like, then it’s going to be beautiful.” -Sophie Bruce

king of diamonds

This laid back tune by Motopony caught my attention on the radio dial recently…

A review reads, “King of Diamonds sounds like laid-back, latter-day Radiohead, with an honest-to-god melody instead of Thom Yorke’s ambient wailing. This is an album for lazy summer days and hazy summer nights, with enough tricks up its sleeve to appeal to pretty much anybody with an appetite for electronics and guitars. ” – Andrew Leahey

midnight city

Loving this song by M83 lately & how appropriate with New Year’s Eve right around the corner…

A review reads, “The band named after a spiral galaxy have, at last, made a record which befits that. It sounds like a soundtrack for the end of the world, or the birth of new worlds. Extraordinary.” – Simon Price

joy, peace & love to all

Wishing all our firefly fans laughter & joy

(our first ‘family photo card’ with our German exchange student, Tessa who has brought much joy & fun into our lives)

peace,

(image via the lonely heart)

and love this holiday season.

I love this song & the uplifting lyrics…

Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air
I know I can count on you
Sometimes I feel like saying “Lord I just don’t care”
But you’ve got the love I need To see me through

Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough
And things go wrong no matter what I do
Now and then it seems that life is just too much
But you’ve got the love I need to see me through

When food is gone you are my daily need
When friends are gone I know my savior’s love is real
You know it’s real

You got the love

Time after time I think “Oh Lord what’s the use?”
Time after time I think it’s just no good
Sooner or later in life, the things you love you lose
But you’ve got the love I need to see me through

You got the love

Thank you for an amazing 2011 & cheers to a bright & hopeful 2012.

our favorite christmas songs

December 19, 2011
By

Since our firefly team logs many listening hours of holiday tunes during the month of December, they have become experts on defining their favorite Christmas songs.  Here’s a few they still like to hear over & over again…

Plus Bess also loves Christmas Eve Sarasjevo – Trans Siberian Orchestra

Danielle also loves anything off the Andy Williams 1962 Christmas Album

A little fun fact – Steve & I spent our first married Christmas on our honeymoon in the Dominican Republic (not quite Hawaii ~ but tropical none the less) & we just celebrated our 13th anniversary.  Steve also loves a little Run DMC Christmas in Hollis

And I also love this upbeat Bing Crosby Holiday Inn remix

We would wake up Christmas morning with my dad playing the “record” over and over again.  To me this song brings back wonderful Christmas memories with my family.  I now play it over and over again on Christmas morning for my family.

a very she & him christmas

November 27, 2011
By

I’ve collected a LOT of Christmas cds over the years in the process of building up my library for the stores.  So a seasonal album has to rate rather high in my book to be added to my long playlist… and this one makes the grade.

Here are a few of my favorites…

A review reads, “ Deschanel’s unfussy voice puts a charming spin on yuletide chestnuts ”Blue Christmas” and ”Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” And their take on the Beach Boys’ ”Christmas Day,” with its gingerbread-spicy surf licks, is sweet enough to cure an eggnog hangover.” -Kyle Anderson

class actress

October 24, 2011
By

These catchy tunes by Brooklynite, Elizabeth Harper are the latest on my download list.

A review reads, “Class Actress is the moniker for Brooklyn singer-songwriter Elizabeth Harper, but this definitely isn’t her first venture into the music industry. Harper had released a solo record under her own name back in 2005, but it wasn’t until she hooked up with electronic producer Mark Richardson that her songs were really given the proper vehicle to set herself apart in the indie music world.”

Rapprocher balances these unashamedly poppy and simple melodies with layers of analog synths and vintage drum beats that keep the album from ever being too sugary. In fact, Class Actress actually went through the pain of sampling ’80s drum hits and really gives this album the feel of something that was recorded in 1982.”

Rapprocher is a tight little album full of melodramatic pop tunes dripping in ’80s loving.”

take a break with toro y moi

September 28, 2011
By

With the days getting shorter & the nights getting colder… it’s the perfect time to throw on some chilled music like new beat & pop under the covers with book or in a hot bath.

Toro_y_moi_

A review reads, “Some albums are meant to be played loud. Toro y Moi’s “Underneath the Pine” is not one of them. The second effort from Chaz Bundick expands on the dreamy bedroom haze of his debut – roll your eyes and call it “chillwave” – ditching laptop sounds for live instrumenta-tion. This is music that is meant to linger in the background – the hippest of on-hold tunes.” -David Malitz
