a playground for flower fairies

When I first saw these whimsical gypsy garden goodies at the gift show this past January I couldn’t wait for spring to come so I could create my own fairy land!

I love the creativity and endless options of containers you can use to create these magical vignettes.  You could make something small to go on your front porch or have fun with a larger display on your back deck.  And what a fun activity to do with your little ones too!

fairy garden supplies

I’m happy to say we’ve set up sweet fairy land shops at all our locations so you can come pick & choose what goodies you would like in your garden.  And since we have a large courtyard at our Ann Arbor location, we transformed an old wheel barrow into a pretty purple fairy world.

Complete with an alyssum river and tree bark sidewalks of course!

a few of our favorite ornaments

November 14, 2012

Our halls have been decked and the trees are full of snowmen, santas and more.  With so many cute ornaments to choose from, it’s hard to pick just one, but here are a few team firefly wants to take home.  (available at our Rochester & Berkley locations)

Snowmen always make me smile. I love their cute little carrot nose and top hat and like snowflakes, no two are ever alike! I’ve lost count on how many jolly snowmen are on my Christmas tree so here’s to adding another one! $4.95

I love all the gingerbread ornaments, they look so real!  My favorite is the snowflake, it looks good enough to eat! $4.95

This puppy popping out of a holiday package is absolutely adorable. How fun to announce a real puppy under the tree or just to show how special your furry friend is to you!  $8.95

These round little Mr. and Mrs. Claus ornaments are adorable!  They will add some extra Christmas cheer to any tree.  A great gift for fun-loving family or friends! $6.95

I love all of the quirky little trinkets we get in the store around the holidays, especially the variety of ornaments. This one is super cute and I love the saying on the sign. This would be a great gift for a kid hoping for a winter full of snow days! $7.95

My motto is the scruffier the better, so what better ornament for my tree this year. $6.95

It just isn’t Christmas without snow and if this year is like the last this ornament is needed to help get you in the spirit. $6.95

Looking for the perfect Christmas gift for a Spartan fan? This ornament is so unique and colorful that will stand out on any tree! Spartan fans everywhere will appreciate this ornament and it will remind them of their favorite team or school during the special holiday! $11.95

This adorable ornament is a perfect gift for a baby’s first Christmas.  I am so excited to give this as a gift to my friend to help her celebrate her daughter’s first Christmas. $7.95

The hair-do, dangly feet & tilted top hat on this little lady penguin gives her a BIG punch of personality.  I like ornaments that make me smile so this one is coming home with me. $6.95

I like the mustache ornament because I figure that’s what Santa wears during the summer months to keep cool.

how do you style your scarves?

May 2, 2012
By

I’ve often been told that I might be part reptile since I always seem to be cold.  On any fall, winter, spring & sometimes even summer day you will most likely find me working at my desk with a jacket or down vest on.  In addition to sporting outerwear all day long, I also enjoy keeping cozy by wearing a scarf.  This season it’s been fairly hard to resist taking home a handful stylish scarves every time I stop by the store.  See why….

Polka-dots of all kinds rank pretty high in my book.

But then again, solids are a strong second because they can go with almost any outfit.

And of course patterns are also lots of fun… flowers, stripes, butterflies & feathers – just a few to tempt you.

See why it’s so hard to decide? All of these pretties are available at our Berkley & Rochester locations & retail for $18.95-$24.95.

We also have this snazzy style available in a variety of colors that can be worn multiple ways.  Check it out online or in the stores.

Since I am an admitted scarf-o-holic, I was thrilled when I stumbled upon this super video with loads more ideas on how to style a scarf…

A flock of these feathered friends made their way to our shops recently & I decided a few of them had to come home with me… but where could I create a spot for them in my home?

Here’s what I came up with…

And ta-da… a whimsical spring arrangement that livens up my dining room table.  Another great ornament option for this type of tree is decorated blown-out Easter eggs.

Do you have loads of photos that are trapped in your camera or computer?  This new clever line makes it a cinch to showcase & switch up your favorites as often as you like. Designed by artist, Carol Roeda of Grand Rapids – the idea is to mix & match magnets to create your one-of-a-kind story.

There are LOADS of options so you can mix & match to your hearts delight.  And the really cool thing is that we’ll also be carrying seasonal magnets so you’ll be able to switch out the flowers to snowflakes or the butterflies to pumpkins depending on the season.

It’s really up to you how simple or layered you want to make your collage.  I had lots of fun putting together these inspiration samples using photos from my friends & family.  It’s almost like ‘metal scrapbooking’.

pewter pets & peas in a pod

January 2, 2011
By

Lucina2

Meet Lori Strickland of Tallahassee, Florida.  She is the clever creator behind sterling silver jewlery & pewter pets that tell a story.

Natural themes with a contemporary twist give Lori’s art wares a very distinctive look.  The inspiration comes from the faith and spirit that her Grandmother embodied.  As a child she learned through her that creating things nurtures your soul, connects you to God,  the creator, and brings joy to others. Because her grandmother, she name her company, Lucina K, after her in a tribute to the creativity she lived.

Lucina4
Each of Lori’s pieces begin by making a small sculpture in wax.  Using the ancient method of lost wax casting, the pieces are faithfully reproduced to the finest of detail; bringing to life the wax sculpture in the brilliance of Silver, the metal of the ages, or in tarnish free pewter.

“Bottle Cap turtles.  Turtles may be slow but they always finish first.  Magnetic top to change his shell to your favorite brand. Desk Pets require no food, little attention and hate to walk.”

Lucina1
Lori’s story about the firefly jewely….

The Lights flash on and off Inviting you to chase the
brief Flicker-to possess that *Spark*.
Like Creativity sparking to the surface-an Idea
Like a Consuming Desire inviting pursuit-Love.
Like a Picture bright as the future-Dreams.
Let us chase, as Children, after the Fireflies in our Life

And have you ever said… “We’re two peas in a pod?”  Great for sisters, friends & moms!

Lucina3
“Go Fetch – now if I could only teach him to use the cork puller…”  Replace the cork with one of your own and place this cute canine on your desk. His happy smile soothe you and remind you that the day will end soon.
